Wick v Turriff: Ross Jack keeping feet on the ground

Turriff United manager Ross Jack believes today’s Highland League game against fellow high-fliers Wick Academy will be a massive test for his thriving side.

Both sides go into today’s Harmsworth Park encounter in excellent form, having each taken 40 points from a possible 42.

Jack is delighted with the consistency shown by his players but the former Elgin City manager is keeping his feet firmly on the ground.

Jack said: “Wick are in great form. They’re going really well and they are where they are on merit. We’re ticking along nicely but this is a massive test. Wick is a difficult place to go but we going there prepared. The confidence is building week in, week out and the players have been excellent.

“We are on this run and determined to keep it going. It is only a run. No one is getting carried away and no one is looking beyond the next game. We have made decent progress but there is a long way still to go. The guys get confidence from winning games. We’ve had a few changes in the team but it’s been a smooth transition with the boys that have come in.”

Elsewhere, Fort William manager Calum MacLean is targeting back-to-back wins when his players host Keith.

Fort won 2-1 at Buckie last weekend, a result which cost Jags manager Gary Hake his job, and victory today will ensure the Claggan Park men better their tally of nine points last season with 16 matches to spare.

MacLean said: “Speaking to the players before the Buckie game, I said we can target seven points out of nine from our games against Buckie, Keith and Huntly and it was great to get the win. We can’t stop there and we are determined to kick on now.

“While we are not getting carried away, we know we have a chance to move further up the table if we beat Keith and beat the nine points we got last season. That’s a great incentive for everyone.”

Inverurie Locos, who have been linked with a move for transfer listed Formartine captain Craig McKeown, make the trip to Strathspey, who lost 7-0 at home to leaders Brora Rangers on Wednesday. Jags forward Adam Macleod is nearing a return following a knee injury but is unlikely to feature today.
