Huntly manager Gregg Carrol made his first signing of the summer after agreeing a two-year contract with Maud attacker James Duguid.

The 23-year-old, who had spells with Fraserburgh and Turriff United, is looking forward to proving himself in the Highland League and said: “I was at the Broch for three seasons from the age of 15, and then a season at Turriff before joining Maud.

“I had injury problems last season but I am now fully recovered and getting my strength back. I scored 16 goals in 18 appearances for Maud last season so I have set myself a target of 20 goals for Huntly. Any more than will be a bonus.”

Duguid is relishing the chance to work with Carrol and added: “His record of winning four titles with two different clubs in the space of a decade is second to none. I believe he can be a bit of a hard task-master but I prefer that, at least you know where you stand.”

Manager Carrol added: “James scored a lot of goals before he picked up a groin injury, we tried to get him last season but he decided to stay put at that time, so it’s great to get this done now.

“James will definitely bring us goals, there is no doubt about that, and as he was at the Broch as a youngster, and also on the fringes at Turriff under the managership of Mark Simpson at one stage, he does have a little bit of experience. The fact he is eager to step up again back into the Highland League is fantastic.”
