Montrose goalkeeper Stuart McKenzie knows it is more than league status at stake for his club today.
He and his Gable Endies team-mates have 92 years of history weighing on their shoulders.
A Brora Rangers win at Links Park today will bring the Gable Endies 92-year stay in the Scottish League to an unceremonious end.
Montrose will go down to the Highland League, with league champions Brora taking their place in SPFL League 2 – something the former Cove Rangers keeper has tried hard not to contemplate.
McKenzie said: “Brora are 1-0 up from the first leg at Dudgeon Park but there is still all to play for.
“Brora went through their Highland League campaign unbeaten. We have been struggling a bit this season but in the last month or so we have taken a lot of confidence from three wins on the spin.
“I would like to think that we are more used to the synthetic surface than Brora are and if our lads have their shooting boots on we can score the goals we need to stay up.”
McKenzie believes an early goal is key for Brora as they bid to overcome the deficit from the first leg.
He said: “If we can get an early goal and kick on from there we would be right back in the tie.
“All of our players know exactly what we need to do. We owe it to the club and our supporters to go out there and do our best to try and keep Montrose in the SPFL.”
From his days with Cove, McKenzie knows all about the threat Brora possess up front.
He added: “The likes of Steven Mackay, Zander Sutherland and Andrew Greig can cause a lot of damage to any team, so we will need to be on our toes this weekend.
“I thought we did all right to nullify their threat up at Brora last Saturday, their only goal coming from an unfortunate own goal off the head of Marvin Andrews.
“If we manage to keep them quiet again we have a great chance of turning this around and retaining our place in League 2.”
