Clach 6-1 Strathspey: Clach’s attack stings Thistle

Iain Polworth stepped down as Clach manager last night.

Clach sent Strathspey packing with an excellent display of clinical finishing.

Lilywhites’ manager, Iain Polworth, said: “There are just six teams who have scored more goals than ourselves in the league, our problem has been conceding but things worked well for us in this game and I am delighted for all the players who worked so hard to get us this result.

“It is an excellent result and good team performance as well as the goals came from throughout the team.

“It was good to see Ian Penwright grab a couple of them, in recent weeks we had been relying on Blair Lawrie to score our goals, and before then it was Dan MacLennan. Iain came in doubled his season’s tally with those two goals.

“The score didn’t really flatter us, we controlled the game and it was imperative we got the three points to help us start to climb the table and make up for our disappointing start to the season.”

Strathspey Thistle manager Brian Grant had no excuses, when he said: “From making my team selection right through until quarter to five the day was a total disaster, it all went wrong for us.

“I picked a team which I thought would be able to do the job, but they didn’t do it.

“We made the same old mistakes and just weren’t good enough, but take nothing away from Iain Polworth’s side, they rolled up their sleeves, and from start to finish they gave us a doing.

“Our only crumb of comfort came from our goal, an absolute screamer from Adam MacLeod which went like a rocket into the top corner from 30 yards, the best goal I’ve seen in a long time.”

The other Clach goals came from David McGurk’s 14th minute opener and second-half goals from Martin Callum and Ricky Wardrop and a Mark McKernie own-goal.
