Forres Mechanics: Frustratingly inconsistent

Forres Mechanics
Forres Mechanics

On Saturday, November 7 we travelled to Nairn for this local derby mid-table tussle, looking to get back to winning ways but alas this was not to be the case and we were beaten 3-1.

The traditional minutes silence to pay tribute to the fallen for Remembrance Day was impeccably observed by all.

The game was very even for the first 15 or so minutes but then Nairn stepped up the pressure and scored with what looked like a suspiciously offside goal, Conor Gethins collecting a through pass and slipping it under Stuart Knight.

The Forres goalie then produced some outstanding saves to keep the scoreline at only 1-0, including a quick fire double save when it looked easier to score.

Dachi Khutsishvili then scored just before half-time to level the scores, his third goal in as many games. They say that you are at your most vulnerable just after scoring and this proved to be the case, as straight from the kick-off Nairn went back ahead through Tony Wallace, again looking suspiciously off-side, as the Forres players were still celebrating from scoring themselves, 2-1 to Nairn at half-time.

Forres never really recovered from losing that goal and Nairn dominated the second half which finished with Scott Moore conceding a penalty late on which Conor Gethins gleefully converted, Moore was subsequently booked as was Stuart Knight for his over zealous protests.

On Wednesday, November 11 we welcomed Clachnacuddin to Mosset Park and ran out 3-0 winners. Heavy rain threatened to postpone the game but it abated before kick-off, allowing the game to go ahead – although it was very windy and cold.

Lee Fraser got the first goal, tapping in a Gordon Finlayson cross. He should have got the second but had an air-shot before passing to Craig McGovern who slotted home into an unguarded net for a 2-0 half-time lead.

Chris Blackett got his first start for Forres and had a very good game culminating in his first goal too, the Clach goalkeeper had punched clear a cross from the right which fell to Craig McGovern who’s shot was blocked but the ball fell kindly for Blackett to fire home from the edge of the box.

Ross Macpherson almost got a fourth goal with a thundering header but this was brilliantly saved at point blank range from the Clach goalkeeper, the home fans went home very happy with the three points and with the good display.

On Saturday, November 14 we welcomed Formartine United, and we were soundly thrashed 5-0, their first ever victory at Mosset Park.

How can a team who had played so well against Clach only three days earlier then produce such a below par performance. Formartine were worthy winners and will be there or thereabouts at the end of the season along with Cove Rangers and Brora Rangers as they breakaway from the rest of the chasing teams.

Nobody is worthy of a mention on that display and they have to take a long hard look at themselves in the mirror and ask the question, did I give my best today ?
