Cove boss looking to wrap up Highland League title tonight

Cove manager John Sheran wants the title won with a victory against Clachnacuddin in Inverness tonight.

A point will be enough but the manager will leave nothing to chance and said: “I’m not bothered about winning the title in style, it’s similar to the situation we have been in for the last few games. We just need to make we get the points, but Clach is a really difficult place to go so we will need to be on our game.”

Sheran expects a stern challenge and added: “Clach had five or six players missing when they went down 5-1 at Formartine on Saturday but I’m sure they will all be back and determined to have an impact against us tonight.

“That’s the way the game goes.

“I know if the boot was on the other foot, playing against someone looking to win the league, players would want to perform to their best.

“It is good to have two goes at winning the title with a second chance at Turriff on Saturday, but we want to win every game, we certainly won’t be going up to Inverness to defend and get a draw.”

Cove’s only absentee is defender Stirling Smith who has pulled a thigh muscle while Clach are expected to welcome back defender Michael Finnis and goalkeeper John Campbell, who both missed the Formartine defeat.

If Cove falter Formartine can keep the pressure up with a win against Nairn County at Station Park.

United manager Kris Hunter is expected to stick with the team which defeated Clach on Saturday while County will be without midfielders Bradley Halsman and Adam Naismith.

Fraserburgh are at full strength for the visit of injury-hit Turriff United to Bellslea, but United midfielder Jamie Beagrie is available to face the team he will join at the end of the season.

Huntly could be unchanged from the side which earned a creditable draw at Deveronvale on Saturday for the visit of Forres Mechanics to Christie Park. The Can-Cans have doubts about midfielder Dachi Khutsishvili, who has a hamstring strain, and forward Liam Baxter who has a badly bruised foot. Defenders Drew Howard and Graeme Grant are added to the travelling squad along with midfielder Duncan Jones.
