Keith FC: What the loss of one player has Dunn to us

Keith FC
Keith FC

I know one player doesn’t make a team, but boy the absence of Michael Dunn just now is causing turmoil at the heart of Keith’s defence.

Since “Dunner” was carried off at Turra, the Maroons haven lost three games on the spin, leaking a massive 16 goals in the process.  It was a tough one to take in the Scottish Cup last week against Locos, but even worse this weekend when Huntly gubbed us 5-1 in the derby match at Kynoch Park.

They are no great shakes, going by their losses so far this season, but they deserved their win, looking more eager, direct and sharper than our boys.  Dusting down my old record books I even discovered that it is 59 years since Huntly last won at Kynoch by a four goal margin!

“Dunner” is out for a while yet, so other guys need to step up to the plate to stop the glut of goals being lost, whilst at the other end our goals for column hasn’t increased by much in recent weeks either.

It’s only a few weeks ago that we were putting in some promising performances and looking, quite rightly, to start climbing up the league table.  Unfortunately on the strength of recent results and displays we are in danger of being dragged down to the basement handful of clubs.  We need to start picking up points against those sides around us in the table or it’s going to be a long hard winter.

Financially we can’t compete with the likes of Brora, Turra and Formartine but we still have some fine young players in our midst so let’s hope their heads don’t go down with this run of no wins.

The likes of Greg Smith and Hamish Ritchie are as good as any in North football, but it needs the whole team to get grips again – which I’m sure they will, it just doesn’t look like it at the moment.
