Goalkeeper Mark Ridgers is poised to become Caley Thistle’s second signing of the summer after Falkirk forward John Baird arrived on a one-year deal.
The 31-year-old Baird joined his new team-mates as Inverness returned to pre-season training yesterday and will be followed by former Hearts and Ross County goalkeeper Ridgers, who has agreed a deal after leaving Partick Thistle in the summer.
The 26-year-old’s arrival looks likely to spell the end of Owain Fon Williams’ time at the club, with manager John Robertson confirming talks are under way about an exit for the Welsh goalkeeper following the club’s relegation to the Championship.
Robertson, who has also handed former Fort William attacker Scott Davidson a trial, said: “We have agreed a deal with Mark. At the moment he has got one or two other things he has to finalise.
“We have spoken to Owain about the potential of moving on due to the fact he is one of the higher earners at the club and there is interest in him.”
Baird brings plenty Championship experience to Caley Thistle, having had spells with St Mirren, Raith Rovers, Queen of the South, and Falkirk, where he scored 10 goals in 43 matches last term.
The attacker is confident he can get the goals to help the Highlanders secure a return to the Premiership at the first time of asking.
Baird said: “The manager mentioned that players arrive here with a point to prove and I feel I have.
“I looked at the squad of the players retained and I felt they could win the league and get promotion and that was a big thing.
“St Mirren had a bad time of it when they came down and Dundee United did a bit as well.
“But when I looked at this squad though, I genuinely believe Inverness can get promotion.
“They are men, they are winners and they were Scottish Cup winners two years ago when they also came third in the league.
“The core of that team is still here and that is something I want to be a part of.”
