Caley Thistle booked their place in the quarter-finals of the IRN-BRU Cup with a 3-0 win against Peterhead at Caledonian Stadium.

Liam Polworth, Ricky Calder and Daniel Mackay got the goals for John Robertson’s side against the Blue Toon.

Caley Thistle manager John Robertson made two changes to the side which drew with Queen of the South last weekend with Charlie Trafford missing out due to suspension following his red card in the second round win at Aberdeen colts. Ricky Calder took his place in midfield.

Attacker George Oakley dropped to the bench with Joe Chalmers restored to the starting line-up.
Peterhead manager Jim McInally made two changes to the side which lost 2-0 at home to Berwick Rangers with captain David McCracken returning in central defence while Russell McLean also came into the team. Mason Robertson and Alan Smith dropped to the bench.

Caley Jags made a dream start as they swept into the lead with only 90 seconds on the clock thanks to a Liam Polworth strike from the edge of the box which beat Greg Fleming in the Peterhead goal.

The Blue Toon responded with a Rory McAllister overhead kick which went over the crossbar and a dipping Jamie Stevenson strike which Owain Fon Williams did well to parry and the League 2 side ended the first half very much in the tie.

However, the visitors were left to rue not making more of their opportunities as the home side doubled their lead at the start of the second half thanks to a Ricky Calder goal, the midfielder exchanging passes with Polworth on the edge of the box before firing past Fleming.

Caley Jags substitute Daniel Mackay came off the bench to head the third on his debut in stoppage time.
