Mulraney must add end product to secure Hearts move, says Robertson

Jake Mulraney was sent off for Caley Thistle.
Jake Mulraney was sent off for Caley Thistle.

Caley Thistle manager John Robertson believes winger Jake Mulraney must add an end product to his game in order to play at a higher level, following interest from Premiership side Hearts.

Mulraney spent two days on trial with Craig Levein’s side last week, but the Republic of Ireland under-21 international has now returned to Caledonian Stadium ahead of tonight’s Championship match at home to Falkirk.

Robertson has been impressed with Mulraney in recent weeks but is still demanding more consistency from the 21-year-old.

Robertson, who has secured defender Coll Donaldson on a new deal until 2020, said: “Hearts have watched a number of players in the Championshipand I got a phonecall asking if it would be possible to have Jake down for a couple of days’ training.

“We had a chat with Jake and sent him down, and now he has come back. That’s where we are at the moment. It has not been taken any further at this moment in time.

“Jake has been playing well in the last few weeks, he has popped up with a couple of assists in the last eight or nine games but for a winger we need more than that.

“His weakness at the moment is he can beat players but he needs to set up more chances and score more goals.

“He is capable of playing at a very high level, if he continues to work hard and use his pace to his advantage. His form has picked up in the last few weeks and we will see where it goes from there.”

Inverness are hopeful tonight’s match against the Bairns will go ahead following the postponement of Saturday’s fixture, with snow cleared from the pitch and the undersoil heating switched on.
