Football and the Tansey family are inextricably linked.
Jimmy Tansey was the trailblazer, the trendsetter.
A full-back with Everton in the 1950s, he set the barometer for generations to come with 133 league appearances in the famous blue shirt.
His son, also Jimmy, followed in his footsteps but down a slightly different path. He left Liverpool for Australia in 1974 aged 21, enjoying a 10-year career Down Under and earning 20 caps for his adopted Socceroos.
Greg Tansey is the grandson of Jimmy Sr and the nephew of Jimmy Jr. His own middle name is James, after his grandfather. Striding out on to the Hampden Park pitch in May 2015, the family motivation for success was there.
“There’s been a history of football in the family,” said the former Caley Thistle midfielder.
“My grandad was everything when I was growing up so to win something, actually achieve something when I played football, was nice.
