Former England youth international midfielder Nat Wedderburn has become Caley Thistle’s first signing of the summer after leaving Cowdenbeath to join the Scottish Cup winners.

The 23-year-old, who represented England at under-19 level, spent the last two years with League 1 Cowdenbeath and has now signed a one-year deal at Caley Thistle with the option for a 12-month extension.

The former Stoke City and Northampton Town midfielder, who can also play at centre back, is eager to prove himself in the Scottish Premiership.

He said: “This is a higher level and while it might take a little time to adapt, I’m sure when I get settled I’ll be fine.

“Getting the chance to play in the Europa League will be a nice, new experience for me. This is a great challenge for me but I am ready to take it. It’s great to be joining a club that has been successful.”

Caley Jags manager John Hughes was impressed by the midfielder’s displays in the Championship for the Blue Brazil but the new signing knows he faces a stern task in breaking into the first team at Caledonian Stadium.

He said: “I’m not expecting to go straight into the team. It won’t be easy, but I am here to play my part for the team. When you go to any new club you have to earn the right to play.”
