Ross Draper hoping to sign new Caley Thistle deal

Caley Thistle midfielder Ross Draper will not allow uncertainty about his future to distract him.

Draper is out of contract at the end of the season and was offered a new three-year deal by Caley Jags in November.

There has been no agreement yet but Draper, who joined from Macclesfield Town in 2012, said further talks are planned.

He said: “It’s still on the table. My agent is still dealing with the chairman and he’s based in England.

“I think he’s coming to Inverness in the next couple of weeks to speak with the chairman. For me, it’s just about football, I’m not fussed about contracts. It’s not on my mind.

“I’ve had an ankle injury to try to get over and we’ve picked up some form of late, so it’s been good to get back playing and the contract is only at the back of my mind.

“I’m grateful for the offer from the chairman. I’ve had three-and-a-half great seasons here.

“Anyone who’s not in Inverness doesn’t realise how tight the players are.

“I’m enjoying my time here, so hopefully it can be sorted out. My agent can sit down with the chairman and go over everything.”

Draper was part of a Caley Jags side held to a frustrating 0-0 draw against League 2 Stirling Albion in the fourth round of the Scottish Cup on Saturday.

Englishman Draper felt Inverness were well below par, with Inverness facing a replay against the Binos a week tomorrow.

He added: “The manager was disappointed – we all were. It was not a great result. We had half-chances, but we didn’t have many clear-cut chances. But we’re still in it and there are still positives to take. We go again and get another crack at it.”

Inverness manager John Hughes is hoping to sign Celtic forward Anthony Stokes on loan until the end of the season, having made an offer for the Irishman.

Draper would relish the chance to team up with Stokes at Caledonian Stadium and he added: “If the club can attract players like that it would give a big lift to everyone.

“It might be a shock to the system for him – our defender David Raven has got an N reg Polo – but I can only encourage him to come.

“It’s entirely up to him. I know there are a lot of big clubs in for him and he’s a very good player.

“For some reason he’s out of the Celtic team. He’s a very talented player and if he was to come here it would be a big signing.”
