‘We haven’t beaten Stenhousemuir this season… Now’s a good time to change that’

Peterhead goalkeeper Fraser Hobday believes the Blue Toon are ready to banish the threat of automatic relegation to League 2 by defeating Stenhousemuir this afternoon.

The Buchan men could move eight points clear of bottom-of-the-table Stenny with only two games remaining with a victory at Balmoor today.

Hobday, who has been given the nod ahead of Graeme Smith for his side’s past two matches, helped Peterhead record a crucial 2-1 win at East Fife last Saturday.

The on-loan Huntly stopper said: “This is another big game for us. It is what some people might call a six-pointer.

“We have got to go into the game with the same attitude and desire we showed last week against East Fife. Hopefully, we can make full advantage of being at home.

“We haven’t beaten Stenhousemuir this season, so this would be a good time to change that.

“We will have half of the job done if we win as we still want to get out of the play-off spot.

“It will be about catching the teams ahead of us.

“We need Stranraer to drop points and they have a tough match at Brechin this weekend. But Stranraer are not the only team in our sights.

“There is no reason why we can’t drag Albion Rovers and East Fife into it if we pick up some wins.”

Hobday is expected to make his 11th appearance of the season for Jim McInally’s side today and is relishing the chance to feature in such a pivotal game.

He added: “Coming back into the team was always my target. I played some games at the start of the season and a couple in December. To get back in the team has taken a lot of hard work.

“I am just concentrating on being fully prepared and ready to do my bit to help keep Peterhead up.”
