Peterhead have been boosted by the news seven players have committed to the club for the new season.

Goalkeeper Lenny Wilson, defender Jason Brown, midfielders Ryan Conroy, Gary Fraser and Andrew McCarthy and strikers Derek Lyle and Ben Armour have all agreed to stay with the Blue Toon.

They join midfielders Scott Brown, Simon Ferry, Alan Cook and strikers Aidan Smith and Steven Boyd, who were already contracted for the 2020-21 campaign, which starts with the League Cup group stage on October 6 before the lower leagues begin on October 17.

With Isaac Layne and Gary MacKenzie also signing, Peterhead manager Jim McInally
is pleased with the group he has assembled, although further additions are still required.  He said: “With the players staying and Isaac and Gary coming in we’ve got the decent spine of a team. We’ll still need to sign five or six more, but we won’t rush into anything.

“We might manage to get a couple of younger players in and look to use the loan market, although it might not be as fruitful with the five subs rule for the Premiership teams. We’ll see what happens but I’m happy with what we’ve got.”

Some players have taken a reduction in wages to stay and the Balmoor boss thanked them for their commitment.

McInally added: “Some players have taken reductions to stay with us and that’s a great gesture. I think they expected it to be fair but it shows that they’re not just coming to the club for money. They want to play for the club.”
