Peterhead FC: McInally has not given up on signing Riley

Peterhead manager Jim McInally has not given up hope of bringing midfielder Nicky Riley back to Balmoor next month.

The 28-year-old spent a month on loan at the Blue Toon earlier this season before his contract was terminated by Dundee in November.

McInally wants to recruit two new players next month with midfielder Mark Millar set to leave Balmoor when his short-term contract expires in January.

Riley will be free to sign for another club when the transfer window opens next month and McInally is hopeful the former Celtic and Hamilton Accies man can be persuaded to return to Peterhead.

McInally said: “We will wait and see what happens next month but I am going to pitch to get Nicky back in.

“Nicky has trained with us every week since he left. I know he has two or three options so we will need to see what he decides.

“He was an important player when we had him and I would be keen to get him back in.

“We would maybe want one more player on top of that as Mark Millar will leave in the first couple of weeks in January.

“But we will not rush into anything and see what is available.”

Dick Campbell’s side had been sitting at the top of Scottish League 1 until last week’s 1-1 draw against Airdrie dropped them back to second behind Stranraer.

Peterhead are trying to build on last week’s excellent 1-0 win away to Morton at Cappielow.

McInally added: “It was a really good performance.

“Sometimes teams can win these games and there is a bit of luck about it but I felt after a close first half we were very comfortable.

“We never conceded a chance and should probably have added to our tally. It was a very good team performance, especially on the back of a defeat to Stranraer the week before.

“It was good to bounce back in the right manner.

“We need to try to take the confidence we got from last Saturday into this week. If we can do that then we have every chance of winning.”
