Blue Toon attacker McAllister in mood for final fling against Rangers

Peterhead forward Rory McAllister wants another crack at Rangers after helping his side to the Petrofac Training Cup final.

The Blue Toon defeated Queen’s Park 2-1 at Hampden on Saturday and will now face either Rangers or St Mirren in the club’s first national final on April 10.

The Blue Toon were deserved winners with McAllister opening the scoring with a free kick before Spiders midfielder Paul Woods equalised from the penalty spot.

But Leighton McIntosh netted the winner for the Balmoor side with only 27 minutes played.

A delighted McAllister says his team would relish the chance to take on Rangers, having scored the winner when Jim McInally’s side upset the Glasgow side 2-1 at Ibrox two years ago.

He said: “It is a difficult one to pick who we would want to face. We have a better chance of beating St Mirren, but everyone wants to play the best teams so I think we all want Rangers in the final.

“We have beaten them in the past, but they are a completely different team now so it would be a much tougher prospect than it was two years ago. But you never know what can happen in a one-off game.”

McAllister has now scored in every round of the cup with his free kick taking his tally in the competition to eight. The prolific 28-year-old has scored 18 goals in 18 appearances for Peterhead this term.

The attacker was thrilled to play his part in helping Peterhead reach a national final.

He said: “I have never played in a final since turning professional.

“Hopefully we can now go on and win it, but we know it is going to be really tough.

“It wasn’t our best performance but semi-finals are always scrappy.

“We played better in the previous rounds but we can now look forward to the final.

“It is going to be a great day. There are a lot of people at the club who do a huge amount of work behind the scenes.

“People maybe don’t see that but it really is a good family club with a lot of nice people working there so it is great for them to get to a cup final.”
