Blair Spittal determined to keep Ross County’s Premiership run going on Wednesday

Ross County midfielder Blair Spittal is intent on continuing the Staggies’ recent Premiership momentum in Wednesday’s trip to Motherwell.

County have taken four points from their last two matches, against St Johnstone and Aberdeen, to boost their survival hopes, having now established an eight-point gap above the relegation play-off spot.

Spittal is determined to ensure the Dingwall side’s form does not come to a halt at Fir Park.

He said: “It’s important that we build on these results.

“Four points from two games looks good, but it’s important that we take that into Motherwell. We don’t want to come back on Wednesday and it’s all doom and gloom again.

“It’s going to be a tough game down at Motherwell but I think in the last two games we have played against them we have acquitted ourselves quite well.

“Hopefully we can go again.”

County have 10 games remaining of their first season back in the Premiership, but Spittal is refusing to look too far ahead.

The midfielder, who joined the Staggies from Partick Thistle last summer, added: “I don’t think it’s important to set targets. I think in the position we’re in we just need to take each game as it comes.

“It’s an old cliche, and it’s probably boring to hear it, but we need to do that.

“It was a brilliant win against Aberdeen, but that’s all it is. It’s important that we build on it now.”

The Staggies’ 2-1 triumph over the Dons in their last outing was secured by a late second goal by on-form attacker Billy Mckay, and Spittal feels the ability to keep going until the latter stages has been a hallmark of County’s campaign.

The 24-year-old added: “I think there always is that belief. If you look over the season, we’ve scored a number of late goals, which shows we believe right until the end of games and we don’t give up.

“It obviously helps that we’ve got Billy in great form. It was two brilliant finishes against Aberdeen, while we had to rely on Ross Laidlaw pulling off two great saves.”
