Ross County continued their excellent start to the Premiership season with a 1-0 victory over Hamilton Accies at New Douglas Park.

The Staggies put in another impressive display following their opening day victory over Motherwell on Monday, with their deserved triumph over Accies coming courtesy of Billy Mckay’s second half strike.

The back-to-back victories set up the Dingwall side up for a home double header next week, with Kilmarnock the visitors on Wednesday, followed by Dundee United on Saturday.

Stuart Kettlewell went with the same starting 11 which got the season off to a flying start against the Steelmen, while Accies were looking for their first points of the season following a 5-1 loss to Celtic the previous weekend.

County made a bright start, with Mckay seeing a low strike gathered by Ryan Fulton at his near post on six minutes after being slipped through by Harry Paton.

The Staggies came even closer two minutes later, with Lee Erwin thwarted by Fulton after Mckay had dummied another ball from Paton.

Hamilton’s first glimpse arrived on 13 minutes when Hakeen Odoffin nodded wide from Scott McMann’s corner, while Callum Smith provided the first test of Ross Laidlaw with a low drive on 26 minutes.

The second half took time to get going, however the Staggies enjoyed a flurry of chances on the hour mark. Mckay was first to threaten with an acrobatic effort which was blocked by Odoffin, with Iain Vigurs’ resulting corner missed by the onrushing Coll Donaldson.

The Staggies had a glorious chance just a minute later, with Connor Randall sliding the ball through to Ross Stewart after being picked out by Mckay’s cross, however the striker saw his strike rattle off Fulton’s left hand post.

County were not to be denied on 76 minutes however, with Vigurs’ cross from the left not dealt with by Accies goalkeeper Fulton before breaking to Mckay, who saw his initial shot blocked but was alert to smash home the rebound.

The closest Accies came to a leveller was a header from David Moyo, which was comfortably gathered by Laidlaw.
