Ross County boss Stuart Kettlewell not looking at Premiership table going into today’s clash with St Mirren

Ross County manager Stuart Kettlewell feels it is too early for the high-flying Staggies to take note of their Premiership position.

County go into today’s trip to St Mirren in third place, with their opponents only a point behind them.

The Dingwall men took seven points from their first three games before falling to a 2-1 loss to Dundee United last weekend.

Kettlewell is hoping to bounce back in Paisley today, to start racking up points again.

He said: “The league table isn’t a huge aspect to any of us right now.

“Of course people have a glance at the table and talk about it, but from our point of view it literally is just chalking up that next game that is in front of us.

“We’re trying to piece together the goals that we have, and see if we can amass as many points as we can at the earliest opportunity.

“Maybe after that first quarter of the season you start to look and see exactly where you are in relation to clubs that are of a similar stature, and see if you have overshot your target or are slightly flagging behind.

“From my point of view, we’ll take the seven points through the first four games.

“We would have loved it to be more, we’re all the same like that, but in terms of the level of performance and turning in a couple of clean sheets, we’ve certainly ticked a few of those boxes, which is pleasing.”

Today’s game against the Buddies is the first of back-to-back away matches, with Livingston the opponents next weekend.

We discussed how important Ross County’s clash with St Mirren today could be on this week’s Northern Goal podcast:

Kettlewell says he will take an attacking approach into both games, adding: “I’m not sitting here and thinking that I’m just going to ask my players to go down and scrape through, try and get a point in each game or limit the opposition to very few chances – we’re going to go down and try to win both games of football.

“That’s my make-up, that’s always my mindset, and we try and instil that in the players as well.

“Whatever we do in the games personnel-wise or shape-wise, it will all be with the view of trying to win each game.

“It will be difficult, of course it will be, but it’s right that that’s the mindset we have for both of those games.”

County have a doubt over defender Callum Morris who has an achilles problem, while Blair Spittal and Joe Chalmers are likely to miss out despite returning to full training following long-term injuries.

Defender Tom Grivosti remains sidelined with a foot injury.
