County on trail of Cliftonville striker Boyce

Ross County have made their third signing of the summer in Northern Ireland international attacker Liam Boyce. The 23-year-old has signed a one-year deal and makes the move from Northern Irish side Cliftonville.

Staggies manager Derek Adams is delighted to have beaten off competition from Irish Premiership club Linfield and League of Ireland side Shamrock Rovers for the player.

He said: “We have been tracking Liam’s progress for a while and are delighted to have completed his signing today. Liam had opportunities in Scotland and England but after visiting us last week has chosen to join Ross County.

“He is a proven goal-scorer and has recently been called up again to the full international team.”

County manager Derek Adams, meanwhile, hopes he can fend off interest in midfielder Melvin de Leeuw and keep the Dutchman at the club.

De Leeuw is in the last year of his contract with the Staggies and the former Cambuur Leeuwarden midfielder is attracting interest from several countries.

Adams says there has been no offer for the 26-year-old but having sold Kevin Luckassen to Slovan Liberec in January he admits every player has his price.

The County manager said: “We don’t want to see Melvin go but we also know that, when you score 10 goals in the top division, there’s going to be interest.

“We saw that interest in Kevin and we haven’t been surprised to see it in Melvin as he has done well for us.

“We haven’t had any formal approaches but we are aware of people watching him.”
