Paul Quinn confident things are looking up for Ross County

Ross County’s Paul Quinn reckons his side’s disappointment at taking only a point at St Mirren proves they won’t be at the bottom of the Premiership for long.

The Staggies drew 2-2 at Paisley on Saturday but had twice been in front.

County are two points behind second-bottom Motherwell but former Doncaster Rovers and Cardiff City player Quinn believes the Staggies are capable of escaping the relegation zone.

He said: “Any team near the bottom of the league is usually jumping through hoops when they get a point away from home but we left St Mirren Park slightly disappointed – which tells its own story.

“There are lots of positives we can take from that performance.

“Perhaps we could have got a better decision for Michael Gardyne’s goal which was ruled out for offside.

“If we had gone 2-0 up, the atmosphere would have gone flat and it would have made it very difficult for St Mirren to get back in the match.

“There were lots of pleasing points from our performance but I was hugely disappointed we conceded two goals.

“I thought they were very soft. We need to start eradicating those mistakes and then we will start picking up three points rather than one.”

Quinn was delighted to mark his first start for the Staggies with the opening goal but he admits he is still working hard to get up to full match fitness after signing for the Dingwall team this month.

He said: “The most important thing was getting the 90 minutes. That was crucial as I haven’t played since May. I need to get games to get fit but the goal was an added bonus. We all want to chip in with a goal. I need to get fit. The sooner I get match fit the better performance I can put in.”

Quinn, meanwhile, praised his team-mates for the way in which they responded to the previous week’s 5-0 defeat by Celtic.

He added: “We made mistakes and Celtic were on fire with their finishing but that can happen. The lads picked themselves up and looked sharp in training. We forgot about that game and focused on St Mirren. Our preparation was top notch.”
