Malky Mackay felt bravery on ball was key to Ross County’s triumph over Hibernian at Easter Road

Malky Mackay felt Ross County reaped the rewards for showing bravery in their 2-0 triumph over Hibernian at Easter Road.

The Staggies struck a goal in each half to claim an excellent victory, with George Harmon and Alex Iacovitti on target.

It is enough to move the Dingwall men out of the relegation zone, with only five points now separating them from the Premiership’s top-half.

Following on from Saturday’s 3-2 win over St Mirren, Mackay felt his side once again stood up to the task.

He said: “In the first 10 or 15 minutes we had to withstand a bit of pressure, but then I thought we sorted ourselves out.

“For the rest of the first half I thought we were excellent, we kept a lot of the ball to the point Hibs changed shape and actually had to do a press on us to stop Loturi getting the ball.

Ross County skipper Keith Watson celebrates following the 2-0 win over Hibernian.

“In the second half it was about being tactical and making sure we stayed in good shapes and didn’t let their lines come between us. Hibs are good in that area, but Ross was quiet in terms of shots at him.

“We picked their pocket again and I’m delighted with the performance – and the way the boys kicked on from Saturday.

“They showed the bravery of being on the ball, especially at Easter Road against a good team.”

Harmon enjoyed an excellent night, with a goal and assist following up his winning goal against the Buddies at the weekend.

The left back was brought in from English non-league outfit Oxford City during the summer.

Mackay has been thrilled with Harmon’s impact in recent weeks, but feels his experienced players have played a huge part in County’s improved form.

George Harmon celebrates netting against Hibernian.

He added: “George has come from being released by West Brom’s academy, to go to Oxford City in the sixth tier of English football and go right into a men’s environment.

“We think there’s something there, and we took him in as maybe succession planning for the following year.

“He has done so well that he has pushed his way in there. He scored at the weekend, and he scored again tonight, and he set up the second one as well.

“I’m delighted we’ve got someone so young who desperately wants to play in the Premiership.

“It’s just about trying to get consistency all over the pitch. We have two or three who are experienced, but there’s an awful lot of new ones as well.

“The likes of Harmon, Loturi and Edwards are 21, while Dylan Smith who we brought on is 16.

“It’s good we have two or three who are men among it.”
