Ross County defender Jamie Reckord is keen for more of his team-mates to follow his lead by committing to the club for next season.

Reckord has impressed since joining the Staggies on a free transfer from Wolves in October, initially on a short-term contract, before signing an extension in December that keeps him at the club until 2016.

The 23-year-old has been an ever-present throughout County’s excellent run of eight wins from their last nine matches.

Reckord is enjoying playing in a settled team and is glad his future has been secured after a string of loan moves during his team with Wolverhampton Wanderers.

But with the bulk of the County squad out of contract in the summer the Englishman hopes more deals can be done.

Reckord said: “I can’t answer for any of the other lads, but I’m here for another year so I hope we can keep this team together.

“We’ve got a good group so I believe we can carry this form into next season, if we stay up.

“It would be nice if we could kick on from here into next season. I’ve got to know everyone well here, but knowing what football is like, people come and go.

“I’m sure if some players do leave, the manager will bring in the right ones to replace them.

“I was without a club until October and was just delighted to get playing again, and having the extra year gives me security.

“I have a family – a little girl – and she and my partner have joined me up here.

“We like it up here and it helped me settle a lot quicker having my family around me.”

With five Premiership matches left, starting with Saturday’s visit of Partick Thistle, Reckord is intent on ensuring the Staggies retain top-flight status.

With County six points ahead of Motherwell in the relegation play-off spot, Reckord is optimistic his side has what it takes to secure safety, adding: “Knowing the system we play and what kind of team we are has been important.

“We all work together really well now and all know our roles in the 4-4-2.

“Everyone is working really hard for each other and we’re getting the rewards now.

“We’re playing our best football of the season and just want to keep it going. Confidence is a big factor.

“We all wish it was the start of the season now because we’d be up at the top of the table.

“We’ve come a long way and the main aim is to make sure we stay up now.

“It feels like yesterday we were down at the bottom of the league table, the turnaround has happened so fast.”
