Ross County: Boyd to grab his chance in absence of Davies

Ross County defender Scott Boyd says he is out to grasp his chance if captain Andrew Davies is ruled out of Sunday’s Premiership match against Celtic.

Davies was stretchered off after 53 minutes of Saturday’s 1-0 defeat by Dundee United after suffering a head knock, with Boyd his replacement.

Boyd has been in and out of the side this season, making just six starts, and is keen to enjoy a more sustained run in the side.

The 29-year-old is the Staggies’ longest-serving player, having joined from Partick Thistle in 2007, and he is determined to make the most of his opportunity if he gets a starting berth this weekend.

Boyd said: “All I can do is prepare normally. That’s what I always do.

“I have to take my opportunities when I get them. It’s the same for anyone in the team.

“I want to be playing. I’ve always played through my whole career, so it is a bit frustrating, but I have to understand the team has done well.

“I missed out at the start of the season through injury as well, so Ihave to wait for my opportunity. Once I get it I have to take it.

“There is good competition for places here.”

County manager Jim McIntyre says Davies’ chances of being fit for the encounter with the Premiership champions remain in the balance but does not expect left back Jamie Reckord to recover in time. The player withdrew from the warm-up ahead of Saturday’s loss against United.

McIntyre said: “Andrew is not bad. He was a bit groggy after the game but wasn’t knocked out. He will spend the rest of the week trying to shake it off and hopefully join in training before the end of the week, if he comes through the jogging without any dizziness.

“He has got a chance – I’m not sure if it’s a good one. We’ve seen these things with Craig Curran but Andrew’s had a knock before and he doesn’t feel this one is too serious.

“Jamie Reckord’s hamstrings are still tight, so he’ll probably miss out.”

Meanwhile, County’s home fixture against Kilmarnock next month has been brought forward by 24 hours and will now take place on Tuesday, December 29, with a 7.45pm kick-off.
