Ross County defender Chris Robertson remains positive despite three recent defeats

Ross County defender Chris Robertson believes supporters can be satisfied with progress this season, despite going into this weekend’s international break on the back of three straight league defeats.

Sunday’s 4-1 drubbing at the hands of champions Celtic at Victoria Park followed defeats on the road against Hearts and Dundee United.

Despite the dip in league form, County have reached the semi-finals of the League Cup for the first time with Celtic standing in the way of a final berth.

Robertson is content with the way the Staggies have continued from the latter stages of last season, when Jim McIntyre’s side won 10 of their final 14 matches to remain in the top-flight, having been six points adrift at the bottom of the table in February.

The 29-year-old still reckons there is room for improvement though, and said: “We’ve started the season really well and looking at the table, we’re still in a good position.

“We are fifth in the league and in the semi-final of a cup.

“To be in the position we are now, looking back at last season, would people think we’d be where we are now?

“We’ve got a lot to improve on and a lot work towards though as it’s a long season.

“There are a lot of positives to take, but there are still a lot of things to work on and we’re not afraid to work on those.

“If we stick together, take our chances when we get them, and defend better as a team, we’ll be good and I’m sure we’ll sneak even further up the table.”

County must wait until January for their cup semi-final against the Hoops, however Robertson, who joined County from Port Vale in the summer, is already relishing the chance to appear at Hampden Park.

He added: “I’ve been to two play-off finals with Torquay, and won one and lost one. We won the first one at Wembley, a 2-0 win against Cambridge United in the Conference play-off final in 2009.

“We then lost the League 2 play-off final 1-0 against Stevenage at Old Trafford in 2011.

“I also played at the old Wembley in an English schools competition.

“I’ve not played a game at Hampden yet though. I’ve been to watch a couple of games there, but never actually been involved in a squad for a game there.

“It will be another ground for me to tick off – I’ve knocked a few off the list this year.

“It’s another ground to visit and another day out. Hopefully we can go there and get a result.”
