South of the Border

  • Manchester United will offer Argentina defender Marcos Rojo, 26, to Southampton as part of a deal to sign Saints captain Jose Fonte. Arsenal also want the 32-year-old Portugal centre-back. (Daily Mirror)
  • England goalkeeper Joe Hart, 29, will leave Manchester City this month as they have agreed a £17m deal with Barcelona to sign Chile international Claudio Bravo, 33. (Daily Mail)
  • Manchester United captain Wayne Rooney, 30, will not be offered a contract extension for at least 18 months. The England striker’s contract runs until the summer of 2019 but he must now prove he is worth an increase on his £300,000-a-week wages. (Sun)
  • Everton and Inter Milan want Newcastle attacking midfielder Moussa Sissoko but the 27-year-old would like to join Real Madrid.(L’Equipe)

And Finally…

Aberdeen manager Derek McInnes believes Ryan Jack is proving the doubters wrong and growing into the role of Dons captain.

The 24-year-old endured an injury-disrupted campaign in his first season with the armband but has made a strong start to the new season with some impressive displays in the club’s Europa League campaign and the early domestic fixtures.

McInnes feels the central midfielder can play a prominent role this season as the Reds push for a fourth successive top-three finish.
