Gary Mackay Steven remaining focused despite transfer talk

Gary Mackay-Steven's contract expires at the end of the month

Gary Mackay-Steven insists he will not let uncertainty over his future distract him from doing his best for Dundee United.

The midfielder, who is out of contract in the summer and can speak to potential new employers, has already been the subject of a sub-£150,000 bid from an English lower league side, an offer that was swiftly rejected by the Tangerines.

The interest in Mackay-Steven comes at a time when he is in sparkling form for United. He scored twice in the Dundee derby last week, once at Firhill on Sunday and had a hand in every other goal the club scored in the 6-2 win over Dundee and 2-2 draw against Partick Thistle.

The Tangerines are now weighing up whether to take the cash for Mackay-Steven if the price is right on a fresh offer or keep the player at Tannadice until the summer for what could be a valuable contribution before losing him for nothing.

Mackay-Steven is adamant he will be able to fully focus on being a United player until told otherwise.

He said: “I’m just focusing on Dundee United and I feel good in myself right now, with the games coming thick and fast. I’m happy to be in the team and looking to do as well as I can. There is always talk and I have lived through enough transfer windows. It really doesn’t affect me at all. I am contracted with United until the end of the season, so I just want to do well for them.

“The club is in the two cups and going well in the league. Every game is a chance to showcase yourself.”
