Celtic could receive £2million fee as midfielder hands in transfer request

Victor Wanyama could be set to leave Southampton
Victor Wanyama could be set to leave Southampton

Southampton manager Ronald Koeman has confirmed that midfielder Victor Wanyama has handed in a transfer request as he pushes for a move to Tottenham.

Tottenham have been linked with a move for the 24-year-old throughout the summer and although Southampton have previously said they will not sell the Kenyan, the transfer request could force their hand.

The sale would come as good news to Celtic who are due 10 per cent of any sale as part of the £12.5million deal which took Wanyama to Southampton in summer 2013.

Wanyama left Celtic for Southampton in a £12.5million deal with a 10 per cent sell on clause.

Wanyama was left out of the Southampton squad for the third match in a row as his team mates beat Norwich 3-0 yesterday.

With Southampton expecting Tottenham to bid £20million for Wanyama, a £2million fee would be very welcome at Parkhead and could be put straight towards the cost of Dinamo Zagreb defender Jozo Simunovic, who is set to join the Hoops for between £4-5million.

Celtic are also expected to finalise the signing of Ryan Christie from Inverness Caley Thistle later today.
