Rangers may miss out on top transfer target as Leeds United have bid accepted

Leeds United have won the race to sign Toumani Diagouraga from Brentford

Reports in England suggest that Rangers could miss out on their top transfer window target, Toumani Diagouraga.

Gers boss Mark Warburton is keen to sign the holding midfielder who he previously managed at Brentford.

Rangers and Brentford have been in talks, trying to thrash out a deal since the start of the window but it appears Brentford’s Championship rivals Leeds have now jumped to the front of the queue in their bid to sign the Frenchman.

Talksport sports reporter Ian Abrahams is this morning reporting that Leeds have had a bid accepted for Diagouraga, however it is believed Rangers are still in talks with Brentford trying to agree on a fee.

Leeds have money to spend after selling young right back Sam Byram to Premier League side West Ham for around £3.7million.

Head coach Steve Evans revealed earlier this week that the club were looking to strengthen.

Evans told the club’s official website: “We’ve made a couple of offers in writing and we’ve had feedback on one of those (on Thursday) morning.

“When the president comes out of his meetings he’ll be active on that. There’s another one we’re waiting to hear back from, but we’re actively pursuing another couple.

“To supporters, it may look like ‘Sam goes out and nothing comes in’, but the reality is far from it.

“The Sam Byram money is available right now, but we have to bring in the right players.

“We’ve earmarked targets and, whether it be now or the summer, we will try and sign these players.

“Two or three of the names have never been mentioned in the press, which is positive, and shows that the conversations have remained between me and the president.”
