Rangers striker Kenny Miller believes that Aberdeen will be Celtic’s biggest challengers next season – for second place.
Miller, who believes Celtic’s Scott Brown has it wrong in predicting a Dons title race with the Parkhead club, says both clubs will battle it for second place this coming season, not first.
Asked about Brown’s comments on Aberdeen challenging Celtic, former Parkhead and Scotland team-mate Miller said: “He’s probably right – for second place.”
Brown said earlier this week: “Aberdeen have been exciting to watch, they have come to Celtic Park and got points and we have struggled up there.”
Miller added: “I don’t think Broony even got the right scores for the games against Aberdeen. He said they came to Parkhead and took points off them but they beat them twice.
“I think you have to take what Broony said with a pinch of salt. He knows from the Scottish Cup semi-final last year, where we won on penalties but dominated that game. “We were worthy winners and if we didn’t win it in normal time it should have been extra time. He knows the challenge that we’re going to bring them this season.
“Being honest, would any Rangers team come up and – no matter what situation Celtic are in – say they are going to be happy to finish second?
“It’s not going to happen, whether it be realistic or unrealistic. The fact of the matter is we are in a place where we are definitely good enough to challenge.”
Rangers boss Mark Warburton reckons that the back-and-forth comments in Glasgow may drive the Old Firm rivals to gun for the top spot, mentioning Aberdeen and Hearts as being “good sides”.
He told the Daily Record: “As much as the focus is going to be on Rangers and Celtic, because history tells you we are usually first and second, there are other teams who will have a say in it, that’s for sure.”
