David Law’s sublime eagle at the Terre dei Consoli Open has been voted the 2016 European Challenge Tour Shot of the Year after taking more than a quarter of the public vote.
The Scotsman showed remarkable control with his second shot into the par four third hole, expertly judging the slope of the green to spin the ball into the cup from 115 yards with a sand wedge.
The 25 year old’s stunning approach got him off to the perfect start during his final round, helping him finish inside the top 15 in Monterosi, Italy.
“When you hit a shot like that you never really believe it is in until you get to the green and see it for yourself,” he said.
“I think it was about 115 yards and I hit a 54 degree wedge. It was a blind shot but I knew that the slope took the ball to the right.
“There were about ten people behind the hole watching but I couldn’t hear them, so it was only when I heard Duncan Stewart shouting from the tee box on the next hole when I knew it was in.
“It was great to get off to such a good start after making the eagle so early on, and it set me up really well for the rest of my last round.”
Law, who received 26% of the vote, came out on top ahead of 2016 Road to Oman Number One Jordan Smith, whose superb eagle at the Cordon Golf Open and pinpoint tee shot at the Red Sea Egyptian Challenge presented by Hassan Allam Properties were voted as the second and third best shots of the season respectively.
Scotland’s Law becomes only the second winner of the Challenge Tour Shot of the Year, after Spain’s Nacho Elvira – the 2016 Graduate of the Year – claimed the crown in 2015 with an incredible albatross en route to winning the Challenge de Madrid.
Of those who voted, Rob Taylor was the lucky man drawn as our prize winner, the Englishman winning a collection of Challenge Tour goodies, including a golf bag signed by 2016 Road to Oman Number Nine Romain Langasque, who represented France at the ISPS Handa World Cup of Golf in November.
