Thorbjorn Olesen’s victory at the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship at St Andrews last year gave him the belief that he can one day become a major champion.
The Dane finished two shots ahead of Americans Brooks Koepka and Chris Stroud to claim his biggest title to date at the Old Course last October.
The 26-year-old will hope to show his links prowess at this year’s Aberdeen Asset Management Scottish Open at Castle Stuart – but he will also be using the week to fine-tune his game for the following week’s Open championship at Royal Troon.
He said: “Winning the Alfred Dunhill Links championship was a dream for me.
“I have grown up watching links golf and it was always a dream to win at St Andrews.
“It was an emotional week and just awesome.
“Can I win a major? Definitely. I have played well at the Open a couple of times. I have been in contention there.
“I love links golf and after six years on tour I have played it a little bit and love everything about it.
“I need to shape the ball and come up with some different ideas about how to play the golf shots. It is great fun.”
There has been suggestions the European Tour may create a links swing by moving the Irish Open next to the Scottish Open on the rota.
Olesen added: “I think we could maybe get one or two more links tournaments on tour. It may be difficult but I would be in favour of that. I’m excited about returning to Castle Stuart, I didn’t play the last time it was there but I have played it twice before. It is a good track and a wide-open links course so it all depends on the wind.
“There are some great holes so hopefully we will get it breezy.”
