Englishman Tyrrell Hatton has got two reasons to look forward to his first trip to Castle Stuart Golf Links.

The 24-year-old hopes to claim his maiden European Tour win at the Inverness venue, but it will also be a rare chance for him to spend some time with his mother Karen.

He said: “I have never played Castle Stuart before but it is a week I am really looking forward to as my mum only lives about 20 minutes away.

“She stays at Tomatin, which is 16 miles from Inverness, so I will be able to see her quite a bit that week.

“It should be a special week. I don’t get to see her that often because of being on tour.

“She was able to come down to the BMW PGA championship at Wentworth but before that I had only seen her for one afternoon since Christmas and it will be nice to see her again.

“She has been staying in Tomatin for about three years now so I’m looking forward to seeing her and enjoying some of her cooking.

“The travelling involved with being a professional golfer means I don’t get to spend as much time with friends and family as I would like.”

The Englishman has fond memories of the 2014 Scottish Open at Royal Aberdeen when a tied fourth finish was enough to earn him a spot in the Open championship at Royal Liverpool.

Hatton has been in decent form this season and moved inside the world’s top 100 after successive top-10 finishes at the Irish Open and the BMW PGA championship at Wentworth in May.

He added: “The Scottish Open is one of the biggest events on tour and it is very well supported. There is always a great atmosphere so it is an event I always look forward to.”
