Kyle Greig will celebrate his call-up to the Great Britain team for this summer’s world 50km trail running championships in Italy by leading the Metro Aberdeen squad in Sunday’s Scottish road relays at Livingston.

The 31-year-old faced an anxious wait after finishing fourth, just 2sec behind second place, in the trial race at Haworth, Yorkshire, earlier this month.

The first three finishers were guaranteed a place on the team but Britain’s selectors have now chosen to add the Metro man to the side.

Greig will be joined in the Metro squad for this weekend’s six-stage race by Hamish Battle, Ben Ward, Chris Richardson, Tom Brian and Jim Tole.

Michael Ferguson has recovered from injury and will lead Aberdeen AAC’s bid for honours.

The Scotland international dislocated his shoulder after falling in the British universities and colleges championships at Sheffield in February.

That caused him to miss the national cross-country cham-pionships but he is now back in full training.

Ferguson tested his form in the Aberdeen parkrun 5km this month, winning in 15min 32sec.

Broc Drury is missing from the Aberdeen line-up for Sunday’s race as he is making his Scotland international debut in the home countries cross-country match in Wales.

The city club will nevertheless field a strong squad, with Ferguson backed by his brother, Andrew, Will Mackay, Rory Muir, Rory Stead and also Tyler White.

Stephen Mackay is in the Inverness Harriers squad for the event. Inverness also include Gordon Lennox, Donnie Macdonald, Craig Campbell, Graham Bee, Michael O’Donnell, Paul Davidson, Finlay MacLennan and Chris Fife.

Rob Taylor, Peter Jennings, Keith Farquhar and Nick Milovsorov represent Metro in the over-50 men’s four-stage race.

Scotland international Jenny Bannerman leads a strong Inverness Harriers squad competing in the women’s four-stage race.

She is joined by Gemma Cormack, who set a women’s record time in last weekend’s Haughs of Cromdale 10km, Kinloss to Lossiemouth half marathon winner Sarah Liebnitz and Highland Cross duathlon champion Caroline Marwick.

The Highland quartet will be aiming to match the club’s bronze medal-winning performance from 2015 when Bannerman and Liebnitz were in the team.

Kayleigh Jarrett leads a Metro Aberdeen side which includes Claire Bruce and Jill Bonthron, both of whom set personal best times in last weekend’s Alloa half marathon, while Erin Ren is also in the starting line-up.
