The Camanachd Association is to invest in developing and recruiting match officials and coaches following a five-figure sponsorship deal.

Gilmour Sports, one of the country’s leading field hockey retailers, has invested in excess of £20,000 to become official kit supplier of the association and will provide clothing and equipment for the four national shinty squads and development staff.

The investment from Gilmour Sports has been further enhanced by additional £7,700 funding through sportscotland’s Sportsmatch scheme. The funding will provide an important boost to the Camanachd Association’s promotional and educational resources for coaches and referees.

Archie Robertson, president of the Camanachd Association, said: “This is great news for shinty. We look forward to working with a retailer of Gilmour Sports standing and experience and believe this will deliver significant benefit to the Association and the sport.

“We are also delighted to have secured funding through Sportsmatch that will allow us to enhance the resources available to support the recruitment and development of coaches and officials in the game.”

Ronald Ross, coach of the national senior men’s shinty squad, said: “I look forward to working with Colin and his team at Gilmour Sports and am confident their experience in the development, promotion and supply of team-wear will be a major benefit to this year’s national squad players.”
