Paul Third: There’s only one place Derek McInnes is going this week

The only place Derek McInnes is going is Dingwall – and it won’t be to take charge of Ross County.

In the mad, mad world of football we are all used to fantastic and unbelievable stories but the one SPFL sponsors Ladbrokes tried to punt in suggesting the Aberdeen manager was set to walk away from Pittodrie is a whopper.

It’s hard to know where to start with this one with the rumour mill cranking into overdrive following the flurry of bets places on McInnes leaving.

But they amount to nothing more than too many people putting two and two together and coming up with five.

But hey, it’s created some short term mass hysteria and put the company firmly in the spotlight, so no doubt their PR department are patting themselves on the back on a job well done.

And just remember, it was the league’s sponsors who started this bandwagon rolling.

But Dons fans need not worry – their manager is going nowhere.

The Press and Journal reported the story and, having sought a response from the Dons, quickly put the record straight.

As tall tales go, this one is up there with the very best and no doubt McInnes will have had a wee chuckle to himself at the furore he has been caught up in.

But in all seriousness the only club the Aberdeen manager is thinking about apart from his own is Ross County, who the Dons face at Victoria Park on Friday.

They don’t like to admit it, but the bookies do get it wrong from time to time – just ask John Hughes who a week ago found himself in the same position as McInnes in having betting suspended on him taking over at Dundee United.

Given how fickle the beautiful game will be it won’t be long before new United manager Mixu Paatelainen is reading the odds on him losing the job he has been in on for a matter of hours.
