Aberdeen looking to complete signing of Rotherham goalkeeper and Scotland midfielder

Aberdeen manager Derek McInnes hopes to complete a loan deal for Rotherham goalkeeper Adam Collin today while former Ross County and Caley Thistle midfielder Don Cowie could join him at Pittodrie before the January transfer window closes.

Liverpool’s surprise decision to recall goalkeeper Danny Ward has left the Dons chasing a replacement and an approach for Rangers goalkeeper Cammy Bell was swiftly rejected by the Ibrox club’s manager Mark Warburton.

McInnes could recall Danny Rogers from Championship club Falkirk, but has instead turned his attention to 31-year-old Collin, who has made two appearances for the Millers this season.

Collin played a key role in helping the Millers reach the Championship in 2014 with a memorable display in the League 1 play-off final when he saved two penalties in Rotherham’s shootout victory against Leyton Orient.

McInnes said: “Bringing Danny Rogers back would be the easy thing to do, but we don’t want to make two wrongs from the situation.

“The ideal scenario for us would have been to keep Danny Ward at Pittodrie and keep Danny Rogers at Falkirk.

“I don’t want to take Danny away from where he is doing well, but I have to look after Aberdeen and if that means bringing Danny back then we will do it.

“It is important for us to stay calm and see what options are available.

“It wasn’t a situation we were expecting. We were given assurances from Liverpool about Danny Ward last week, but obviously circumstances changed.

“It was a huge surprise and disappointment when I took the call on Sunday morning but we want to deal with it in the way that best suits everybody.

“That includes the long-term plan for Danny Rogers as well as making sure we are all right at Aberdeen.”

McInnes is keen to agree a loan deal for Wigan midfielder Cowie following hamstring injuries to captain Ryan Jack and Willo Flood, who are both expected to be sidelined for four to six weeks.

The 32-year-old, capped 10 times by Scotland, has made only six appearances for the Latics this season.

McInnes said: “It wasn’t an area that would have been a priority. We don’t have the biggest squad and we are a bit light when we get injuries in the same area of the team.

“Normally we just have to get on with it but when the January window is open there is an opportunity to do something.

“We will look to see what is available, but it would be wrong to comment on any individual player.”
