He has played more games for Fraserburgh than anyone else in the club’s history but former Broch goalkeeper Billy Gordon never experienced a game of this magnitude.

Gordon, who made 721 appearances between 1986 and 2010, once came close to facing Celtic, but the 51-year-old is thrilled that Mark Cowie and his players will experience the glamour of facing the Hoops’ Old Firm rivals.

He said: “We did come close to facing Celtic at Parkhead one year during my playing career.

“We needed to beat Whitehill Welfare in a replay at Bellslea after we drew the first game down there and we knew Celtic were waiting in the next round for the winners.

“Their equaliser, on a ground with no floodlights, came in the dark in injury-time with car headlights illuminating the pitch and dazzling from the other end.

“Unfortunately Whitehill beat us in the replay and the trip to Celtic Park never happened.

“But I’m delighted for the guys in the current Broch squad.

“All you ever want as a player as a part-time footballer is a crack at one of the Old Firm and they don’t get much bigger than Rangers. It will be an amazing experience for the lads and I hope they manage to enjoy the occasion.

“Rangers are on a different level but the aim for the Broch lads will be to stay in the game as long as they can.

“We’ll see how it goes from there but I would love to see a Broch win or even a draw.

“Aa replay at Ibrox, now that really would be something special.”
