Caley Jags face tough selection for Dundee tie, says Kellacher

Caley Thistle coach Scott Kellacher reckons manager John Robertson will have difficult decisions to make for today’s Scottish Cup fourth round tie at Dundee.

Robertson shuffled his squad for a recent run of five matches in the space of a fortnight, helping Inverness take 10 points from a possible 15.

That haul has helped take Caley Jags to within three points of the Championship promotion play-off places, however their focus switches to cup action when they face Premiership Dark Blues at Dens Park today.

Kellacher feels Inverness’ players have all shown they are eager for the opportunity to test themselves against top-flight opposition, and he said: “We have changed the team around a bit over the last few weeks to keep it fresh, and it has worked in our favour.

“It has made boys hungry and they’re fighting for their places, knowing if they’re not playing, they can come in at any time and they’ve got to be at it.

“It’s hard to pick a team now because everybody is playing well.

“It’s a great test. It will show us how far we have come, and where we want to get back to.

“We’re on a good run of form – just like Dundee. It should make for a good game.

“We have always been a club that’s enjoyed the cup competitions, so we will go down there full of confidence and have a right go.

“Dundee are playing well. They started off slow at the start of the season, a bit like ourselves, but we’ve both found a good bit of form. It should make for an exciting game.”

Kellacher says former Falkirk striker Nathan Austin could feature in the squad, after returning to training following a hamstring injury, and he added: “Nathan has been back and trained the last few days, so we will see how he is. He might be involved on Saturday.”

Caley Thistle say they expect clarification from SPFL operations director Ian Blair next week over the date of their IRN-BRU Cup semi-final against Northern Irish side Crusaders.

The game is provisionally scheduled for February 17 which is the same weekend as the Northern Ireland League Cup final in which Crusaders could be involved, however poor weather has so far prevented their semi-final tie against Dungannon Swifts from going ahead.
