Keith FC: Promising Maroons performance as player of the year vote approaches

Keith FC
Keith FC

Well, Keith managed to stave off three successive home league defeats, but many home fans felt they deserved to win against fourth top Turra.

It shows how far we have come in the last four months when we took Formartine to the wire, won at Nairn, Fraserburgh and Inverurie, then giving Turra as good as we got.

Probably the star men were the respective goalies, David Dey of Keith and Kevin Main of Turra. Young Dey is only 18 and this was only his fifth senior appearance this season.

The draw meant that the Maroons were the last senior side in Scotland to figure in a league draw, but they should have notched all three points to be quite honest, especially when skipper Michael Ewen squandered a gilt edged chance to nab the only goal of the game four minutes from the end.

Never mind, all of a sudden Keith have only three league games left this season, and since Allan Hale and his backroom staff have come on board, there has been a lot of gloom and doom lifted for the Balloch Road faithfull.

The fans will be able to vote for their Player of the Year at the Forres match in midweek, then again at the final game against Lossiemouth, and there are several contenders ranging from season veterans to newcomers and young, keen starlets.

Veteran defender Michael Ralton has been super consistent, whilst teenage midfielder Hamish Ritchie’s class has shown through. Add that to the sparkling displays of newboys Luke Barbour and Donnie Fraser, it is going to be a difficult choice.
