Solo, Jurassic World, Mission Impossible and Cloverfield get Super Bowl trailers

The first teaser trailer to Solo: A Star Wars story shows a young Han Solo declare his intention to be a pilot and get a hug from Chewbacca.

The first look at the spin-off was unveiled during the Super Bowl, along with a string of other highly anticipated trailers.

The brief footage gave a first glimpse of Alden Ehrenreich as the title character, along with Emilia Clarke, Woody Harrelson and Donald Glover.

A full-length trailer for the Star Wars film, due in UK cinemas on May 25, will be released on Monday.

There was also a trailer for Mission: Impossible – Fallout which shows Tom Cruise reunited with Simon Pegg and Rebecca Ferguson for his sixth outing as Ethan Hunt.

The footage, set in Paris, also features a mustachioed Henry Cavill throwing punches as Cruise leaps between buildings and hangs off a helicopter by a rope.

It was during the filming of one of the movie’s stunts that Cruise broke his ankle.

In the footage, Hunt is told: “The end you always feared is coming … the fallout of all your good intentions.”

The film will be released in UK cinemas on July 27.

There was also a new look at footage from Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, as a dinosaur creeps up on a little girl in bed.

The clip featured the reappearance of the tyrannosaurus rex and the reunion of Chris Pratt’s character, Owen Grady, with raptor Blue, the dinosaur he imprinted on when she was a baby.

New footage from Jennifer Lawrence’s film Red Sparrow was also shown during the Super Bowl, featuring Lawrence as a Russian spy.

Netflix surprised fans by airing a trailer for the Cloverfield sequel during the game and then dropping the film on the streaming service straight afterwards.

The Cloverfield Pardox, a follow-up to the 2008 film and the subsequent 10 Cloverfield Lane, was made available straight away.

The short trailer shows British star Gugu Mbatha-Raw speaking straight into the camera, warning the viewer about an impending threat.

It also shows an unseen danger threatening stars including Chris O’Dowd, Daniel Bruhl and Elizabeth Debicki.

The Super Bowl also saw the world premiere of Dwayne Johnson’s new film, Skyscraper, featuring the star as an FBI negotiator who was severely wounded in the field.

Set in the tallest building in the world, which is torched with his family inside as he is framed for murder, it features the former wrestler scaling the outside of the huge structure.

A brief look at Avengers: Infinity War shows Iron Man, Spider Man, Star Lord, Loki, Captain America, Thor and Black Panther, Doctor Strange and Black Panther all together.

The ominous trailer for A Quiet Place, starring real-life couple Emily Blunt and John Krasinski, tells audiences that silence is crucial for survival in the devastated world of the film.

The brief footage shows Krasinski wielding a shotgun and Blunt lying in the bath screaming.

Krasinksi also stars in the trailer for the small screen version of Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan, a character that was most recently played on the big screen by Chris Pine.

Over the strains of speeches from presidents including George W Bush and Barack Obama and a cover of All Along The Watchtower, Krasinski’s Ryan is seen helping refugees, toting guns, dealing with injuries and ducking explosions.

The return of Westworld is one of the most highly anticipated TV series of the year and the trailer for the second series features a monologue from Evan Rachel Wood talking about the beauty of the world where dreams come true  before revealing “this world is a lie, this world deserves to die”.

While little plot is revealed, it does show the return of Thandie Newton, Ed Harris and Jeffrey Wright.
