Amanda Holden has said her husband will struggle more with the change in routine than she will for her new job as a breakfast radio host.

The Britain’s Got Talent judge is joining Jamie Theakston for the new nationwide Heart Breakfast show from Monday June 3, and she said she is not at all bothered by her new early start.

Her first day on the job will come hours after the Britain’s Got Talent live final on Sunday.

Holden, 48, said she is looking forward to starting the show at 6.30am, but husband Chris Hughes is “dreading having to go to bed early”, as they will have to turn in around 9.30pm.

She told the Press Association it is “purely because we watch so much Netflix and love sitting down with a glass of wine in the evening when the kids have gone to bed, so that’s going to have to be for the weekends”.

She added: “But I am a morning person. I will be doing full hair and make-up once I get there, but I will arrive probably at 5.30am to start with, and then 6.25am once I get used to it.”

Holden said the biggest change to her routine will be to swap her morning run to the afternoon, and she will not miss having to do the school run with her daughters Lexi, 13, and Hollie, seven.

She said: “The school run for us, we’re up at six in our house anyway, just because everyone takes such a long time. I’ve got two girls.

“The school is 10 minutes away but it seems to take us ages in the morning. I’m not going to miss that at all! The screams while you’re brushing your children’s hair and the arguments and the forgetting lunch.”

She said her husband is “going to be fine” doing the school run without her, adding: “I have actually got someone in to come and help, only because I think he’ll be rubbish at remembering to test Hollie on her spellings and things like that.

“And he has been practising plaiting hair and he’s rubbish.

“So basically we’ve got someone who has helped us since the children were born coming in in the mornings instead of the afternoons.”

Looking ahead, Holden has not thought about how her morning weekday job will impact her Britain’s Got Talent duties, especially during the live shows next year.

She said: “It is a massive undertaking, I hadn’t really thought about it.”

Holden said Theakston may come up to Manchester when they do auditions there for the ITV show.

She added: “The live shows will be a different ball game, and we’ll have to think about it because we have such late finishes.

“It’ll be fine, I’m not bothered about it, it’s not like we’re drilling for oil in the middle of the North Sea!”

Theakston, who has been at Heart since 2005, said he is looking forward to joining forces with Holden following his former co-host Emma Bunton’s departure last year.

He said: “The reason we were so desperate to involve Amanda was simply because we wanted her to be exactly what she’s like off-air.

“She has a very infectious personality, she’s got a wicked sense of humour and all of the things that I knew would make a wonderful radio presenter.”

The new Heart Breakfast with Jamie Theakston and Amanda Holden airs on weekdays from 6.30am to 10am across the UK.
