Rita Ora and Sam Smith among stars wearing white rose at Grammy Awards

Rita Ora and Sam Smith showed their support for anti-sexual harassment campaigns Me Too and Time’s Up with their choice of outfits at the Grammy Awards.

The pair joined the likes of Cardi B, Lady Gaga and Kelly Clarkson in sporting a white rose on their outfits as they arrived at the 60th Grammys in New York City.

The flowers have been adopted as a symbol of the Time’s Up campaign which aims to highlight sexual assault and harassment as well as provide legal support for alleged victims.

Ora pinned her rose – picked by campaigners for its symbolism with hope, peace, sympathy and resistance – to the lower shoulder of her black structured gown while Smith paired his with a forest green suit.

New York City’s mayor Bill de Blasio and his wife Chirlane McCray also wore the roses while stars Dua Lipa and Halsey previously said they would also show their backing.

Gaga was in a lace black bodysuit with full skirt while Cardi B clutched her white rose in her hand.

The campaign was launched on Wednesday after a group of music executives came up with the idea and comes weeks after Hollywood stars wore black at the Golden Globes in a similar protest.

Speaking on the red carpet, Sting spoke about Time’s Up and Me Too, telling the BBC it was “an important conversation”.

He added: “It’s a time of learning and hopefully, eventually, a time of healing.”

Pop singer Kesha is expected to give a nod to the campaigns during a performance at the ceremony which is being billed as a battle between Kendrick Lamar and Jay-Z for the top awards.

His wife Beyonce gave fans an early preview of her red carpet outfit as she posted a series of photos on Instagram showing her in a metallic gown.

Early winners at the Grammys included Ed Sheeran whose record-breaking album Divide picked up the pop vocal prize while Bruno Mars and Lamar have already collected multiple awards each.
