Love Island’s Sam and Georgia make it official and joke about ‘loyal wedding’

Love Island stars Georgia Steel and Sam Bird became an official item live on Good Morning Britain.

Sam, who left the ITV2 dating programme last week with his partner when they found they were unable to be apart in the villa and move on with other people, asked Georgia to be his girlfriend live on-air.

He said: “I actually wanted to ask you something Georgia. Obviously we’ve been through a lot inside the villa and outside the villa, we’re going be living together, I wanted to know if you’d be my girlfriend?”

She said she was going to be “emotional” before hugging him and saying “of course”, as presenters Kate Garraway and Charlotte Hawkins cooed and clapped in excitement.

Sam then joked to showbiz presenter Richard Arnold that he would be invited to the “loyal wedding”, poking fun at Georgia’s oft-used turn of phrase on Love Island – “I’m loyal”.

Asked if they made the right decision to leave the show and give up the chance of winning the £50,000 prize, Georgia said: “100%, and I feel like, if we didn’t do that then we’d have been going against everything we did in that villa.

“We were both ourselves, we were real to us and I feel like if we did recouple, feelings would have been fake and we’d have been in there for the wrong reasons.”

Sam added: “We got put in a difficult position, and it wasn’t nice, but our feelings towards each other were bigger than the show.”

Defending their decision to live together so early on in their relationship, Georgia said: “We were living together anyway and, obviously we’re both normal people and this has completely changed for us.

“We’re so busy, we really want to make this work and the best way to do that is to make time for each other.”

Love Island continues on ITV2.
