Danny Dyer’s expletive-filled rant about Brexit has been named the television moment of the year at the Edinburgh TV Festival.
The EastEnders actor laid into former prime minister David Cameron for his part in Brexit and calling the EU referendum when he appeared as a guest on Good Evening Britain, ITV’s one-off night-time show hosted by Piers Morgan and Susanna Reid.
Dyer called Cameron a twat and said: “Let’s be fair. How come he can scuttle off? He called all this on.
“Where is he? He’s in Europe, in Nice with his trotters up. Where is the geezer? I think he should be held accountable for it.”
The awards show, hosted by Frank Skinner, also saw Channel 5 scoop the channel of the year award.
Channel 4 drama series The Handmaid’s Tale, which is produced by Huliu and MGM, was named best international drama, while the best UK drama award went to BBC series Three Girls.
Gogglebox, which airs on Channel 4, was named best entertainment series and actress Rachel Parris, from Murder In Successville, was named the winner of the best breakthrough talent category.
BBC’s Blue Planet II won the best documentary programme category.
Monty Python star Michael Palin was presented with a lifetime achievement award at the ceremony.
Edinburgh TV festival director Lisa Campbell said: “It is testament to the immense talent our industry offers that we have been able to increase the number of categories in our awards.
“Huge congratulations to all our winners, from our breakthrough talent to a lifetime achievement, it truly is a celebration of the range of talent and programmes our industry produces.”
