Strictly Come Dancing has pulled in the highest number of viewers so far in the series as it continues to dominate The X Factor in the ratings.

The six-chair challenge of the ITV talent show was watched by fewer viewers than last week’s episode.

Strictly’s second live on the BBC saw 15 couples take to the dancefloor and was watched by an average of 9.5 million viewers.

On ITV the six-chair challenge was watched by and average of 4.6 million, according to overnight ratings.

The show – featuring a new line-up of Simon Cowell, Ayda Field, Louis Tomlinson and Robbie Williams – attracted more viewers last week, with an average of 5.6 million.

Strictly has made gains each week from the show’s launch on September 9, which had an average of 8.1 million with a peak of 8.5 million in the overnight ratings.  The second show attracted an average audience of 8.9 million and a peak of 10 million.

These overnight ratings do not take into account the total viewers using catch-up services.

The BBC show – featuring fashion expert Susannah Constantine, DJ Vick Hope and Blue singer Lee Ryan – brought in 46% of the audience share.

The X Factor achieved a 27% share of the audience and the show, which saw Field and Cowell deliberating on their categories, aired later in the evening.  The six-chair challenge continues tonight at 7pm on ITV.

Strictly returns for the next live show on October 6th and the results show airs tonight at 7.17pm on BBC One.
