Noel Edmonds’ wife has said she is proud of him for showing off his body in the I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! jungle.

The TV presenter, 69, has been praised by surprised viewers for his youthful, muscular physique while taking part in the reality series, with some even dubbing him an unlikely sex symbol.

Liz Davies told ITV’s This Morning: “He does numerous things (to keep fit) and I am very proud of him, he does look good. I am very pleased to see him without his top on.”

Asked how he stays fit, she replied: “He’s just very careful about what he eats, and he devised his own fitness regime and he’s got several things that he does.

“Really, you need to get him on the show to explain.”

Speaking to the programme from Australia, she said her famous husband is “a laugh” and “there is a naughty side to him, in a fun way”. She also confirmed she painted his toenails before he went into the show.

She added that Edmonds would have been “briefed” to play the part of the Emperor when he arrived in the jungle a few days after the other campmates, but that he “feels much happier now being a team player” among his co-stars.

Ms Davies, who married Edmonds in 2009 after meeting him when she worked as a make-up artist on game show Deal Or No Deal, said she feels “uncomfortable not being able to pick up the phone for a little chit-chat” with him.

“We’ve been apart but not for very long, the most was two weeks, I think, but then we talk every day, several times a day,” she added.

She said she thinks Edmonds could win the series, but she would not mind if he left the jungle early.

She said: “It he gets out early, it’s great for me!”

Edmonds is competing to be named King of the Jungle against the likes of former football boss Harry Redknapp, ex-EastEnders star Rita Simons, entertainer and actor John Barrowman and The Chase’s Anne Hegerty.

I’m A Celebrity continues on ITV.
