The first winter series of Love Island will kick off on Sunday January 12, although there is still no confirmation on who will be host.

ITV confirmed the news in a tweet, which said: “Inflatables at the ready… we’re back on January 12th!”

It had been previously reported that the show would return to ITV2 for its debut winter series, filmed in South Africa, on Wednesday January 8.

It comes after Caroline Flack stepped down from hosting the show following her arrest.

The 40-year-old TV presenter was charged “following a private domestic incident”, reportedly involving boyfriend Lewis Burton.

According to reports, Laura Whitmore, 34, will take over hosting duties, although Maya Jama and Emily Atack have also been rumoured.

Irish TV star Whitmore, who is the girlfriend of Love Island narrator Iain Stirling, has replaced Flack in a job before, when she took over I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here! NOW! in 2011.

She has also presented on MTV News for seven years and took part in Strictly Come Dancing in 2016.

In 2018, Whitmore hosted ITV’s first attempt at a winter version of Love Island, Survival Of The Fittest, which included eventual Love Island winner Dani Dyer among its contestants.

The contestants for the series have not yet been announced.
