An Aberdeen musician has shared the songs he relates to the most.

Murray Macleod, 25, of distorted pop-rock band, The Xcerts created an eclectic mix of tunes for this week’s Spotify playlist.

The Xcerts originally formed in Aberdeen before relocating to Brighton in 2006.

The band completed a headline UK tour in 2010 following the release of their debut album, In The Cold Wind We Smile, in 2009.

The Aberdeen born frontman said: “The band’s currently gearing up for the release of our new single with a third album following in Autumn.

“We’re heading out on tour in a week or so.”

Speaking on his choice of tracks he said: “Afraid of Nothing by Sharon Van Etten is without a doubt one of the most gorgeous songs I’ve heard in a long time.

“It’s a slow burner musically but the lyrics are incredibly poignant.”

Eyes To The Wind by The War on Drugs also features on the mix and mean a lot to Macloed due to the uncanny parallels between the lyrics and his life.

He said: “This song’s from a record that I checked out purely because of the artwork and after listening repeatedly I delved into a world of ‘fanboyism’ and tried to discover everything about the band and meaning of the record.”

The Xcerts begin their UK tour Tuesday 15 July, playing The Tunnels in Aberdeen Thursday 24 July.
